Des Moines Ranks #9 in the Best Places to Live Back to News

Des Moines is known for its State Capitol Building, the Iowa State Fair boasting its famous butter cow sculpture, the Science Center and Blank IMAX Dome Theater, and the attractive Pappajohn Sculpture Park, to name a few. It’s an excellent place to raise a family due to the strong job market and affordable living cost.

Des Moines’ historical charm didn’t go unnoticed and was ranked #9 in the best places to live, according to 2017 U.S. News & World Report.

How is it ranked? A variety of factors go into a city’s ranking such as the job market and unemployment rates, average salary, commute length, housing cost, education and health care quality, crime rate and even the residents’ quality of life is taken into consideration. A compilation of data is collected from organizations like the U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Labor, the Federal Bureau Investigation and Gallup surveys.
